Each year, Saint Anselm College marks the 9/11 anniversary with a day of service in the Manchester area. Their goal is to turn the memories of that dark day into one where people build each other up. The college contacted us last month to see if they could send some students to Trinity High School to do some service and we readily said yes.
Yesterday was the day and three students and a professor and her family joined us. It turned out that one of the students was from Saint Raphael's Academy in Pawtucket, RI, a Lasallian school. I met her a few times in the past at Lasallian Youth Assemblies and during our 2011 visit to the school. It also turned out that another one of the students lives right around the corner from me in Dracut, MA. Small world! The students joined Mr. Thompson P '13 and '14 doing landscaping work along the side of our building while the family helped me clean the bleachers in our gym. We all worked for a couple of hours and the folks headed back to the campus for a BBQ.
We are so grateful to the students and the family for joining us and to Saint Anselm College for thinking of us. The work certainly wasn't glamorous but desperately needed.
