Today is the feast of Blessed Cardinal John Newman of England. Cardinal Newman was a convert from the Church of England and was ordained a Catholic priest in 1847. He was assigned for the rest of his life to work in universities committing himself to learning, preaching, and words of charity with other priests. After he died in 1890, the first Newman Center was established at the University of Pennsylvania, an office dedicated to helping university students live their Catholic lives. This Newman Center was the precursor to Campus Ministry offices around the world and our very own Campus Ministry center owes its existence, in a sense, to Cardinal Newman.
Happy Feast Day!
