Yesterday our school community gathered outside at 7:45am to mark the Second Week of Advent It's hard to believe we are already half way through Advent and that much closer to Christmas! I get nervous as the candles light up week after week - they are reminders that my tendency to procrastinate when buying gifts is going to come back to haunt me!
We read an excerpt from Sunday's gospel passage about St. John the Baptist (see below) and then "lit" the first and second candles on our giant Advent wreath:
John went throughout the whole region of the Jordan,
proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,
as it is written in the book of the words of the prophet Isaiah:
A voice of one crying out in the desert:
“Prepare the way of the Lord,
make straight his paths.
Every valley shall be filled
and every mountain and hill shall be made low.
The winding roads shall be made straight,
and the rough ways made smooth,
and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
