First Week of Advent

Today we began the season of Advent at Trinity High School.  Michael Toomey '14 and his dad Bill made an extraordinary Advent wreath for us which we placed on the front lawn of the school.  The "candles" are made of PVC pipes and Mike thought of a way to run electricity through it to light the candles.  He also waterproofed it tight and this weekend was a good test of that!

The school community gathered outside at the start of the day to "light" the first candle on the wreath and to pray.  Ms. Foley of our theology department sang the first verse and refrain of "O Come, O Come Emmanuel" and I offered the following prayer:

Heavenly Father, as we begin this Advent, give light to our eyes and peace to our hearts.  May the Lord find us watching and waiting in joy when He comes.  We pray in Jesus' name.  Amen.

After the prayer we "lit" the first purple candle and then headed inside.
