God's creation too

Reading from the book of Genesis
Thursday night was our annual Blessing of the Animals ceremony in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.  This was the first time in three years that we have been able to have the ceremony as the past two had to be cancelled due to rain.  Our former campus minister, Father Andrew Nelson, was in town and was able to preside.  It was quite fitting, actually, as Father Andrew started the ceremonies at Trinity High School back in 2005.

Over 100 people and creatures joined us.  We began with a prayer service and read the creation story from the book of Genesis, followed by brief remarks from Father Andrew, petitions, and a final prayer. Father Andrew then went to each animal and blessed them with holy water and I presented each person with a medal of St. Francis of Assisi.

We mostly had dogs with us but there was a smattering of cats, bunnies, stuffed animals, and a robot from our robotics team!

Robots need love too
I am grateful to Father Andrew for joining us.  He was in town as he was speaking at a teacher's day of formation on Friday (more on that in the next post) and I know how busy he was prepping for that.

It was a wonderful night for prayer and community.
