Sisterly visit

Last Friday two religious sisters visited Trinity High School - Sr. Mary Angelica Neenan, OP and Sr. Casey Marie Loyer, OP.  The sisters are members of the Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia in Nashville, TN.  They know Ms. Girard of our theology department and Sr. Mary Angelica was visiting her family in Massachusetts so they decided to make a visit to Trinity while they were up this way.

They spoke with our freshmen and sophomores during their theology classes.  I only sat in on one of the talks but the students seemed very taken by the sisters.  They wear a full habit (which students don't see very often) and they exude joy.  Plus, their order receives about 20 new sisters each year and the average age of their 300 sisters is about 32!  They have the opposite problem of most religious orders - they are out of room in their convent.  I think the students were very intrigued by that.

The sisters' main ministry is education and they staff elementary schools, high schools, and a college in three countries (the United States, Canada, and Australia).  The sisters noted that some girls seemed very alert during their talks and "had that look" that they may have a vocation.  I asked if we could do anything to help with that and Sr. Mary Angelica said that it's up to the Holy Spirit now.

It was a lovely visit and the sisters were so warm and down to earth.  We love to introduce our students to religious and other people of faith as students don't always have that opportunity with vocations being what they are today.
