Another option

One of my best experiences at Saint Anselm College was participating in Spring Break Alternative trips.  Each Spring Break Campus Ministry would organize service trips to various sites in the Northeast and by my senior year Costa Rica.  I went to Maine as a sophomore and to Costa Rica as a senior.  I can't say I changed the world or had an Earth shattering experience but it was a nice opportunity to step outside my comfort zone and spend time away in service with other students.  Of course one doesn't have to travel far to do service but trips like these are opportunities to experience something different and to learn about poverty in other parts of the country (and world).

This April vacation we are sponsoring two mission trips - one to Guatemala City and another to Browning, MT.  The trip to Guatemala is being organized by Ms. Girard of our theology department so I don't know a ton about it.  After they return they will provide a guest post for this blog on their experience.  I am organizing the trip to Montana which will be centered about the De La Salle Blackfeet School in Browning in Blackfeet Nation.  The school was founded in 2001 by the Lasallian Christian Brothers (the same order that founded Trinity and two of our predecessor schools) to serve the children of Blackfeet nation.  They have groups that serve there almost every week so we were lucky to get a spot.  We are leaving on April 20 and will be back a week later.  9 students will be going to Montana and I believe around 12 are going to Guatemala.

Hopefully these two trips will be annual events on our calendar and help continue to build a culture of mercy at our school.
