Remember you are dust...

Today the Trinity High School community gathered for Ash Wednesday Mass to kick-off the 40-day season of Lent.

Bishop John McCormack, the bishop emeritus of Manchester, was our celebrant.  At the start of Mass he said the customary, "Peace be with you" but then said, "Sorry, Peace be with you Pioneers!"  This was the first time Bishop McCormack has celebrated Mass at Trinity since his 2011 retirement.  He was always a good friend to Trinity so it was nice to have him back.

In his homily Bishop McCormack spoke of how Lent is simply a time for us to become more effective Christians, people, students, spouses, etc as we always need to improve.  The three traditional Lenten practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving are designed for us to do just that by remembering to rely on God and to fast from those things which may take us away from Him and others.

Following Communion I told the school that I bought them each wrist bands with the Lasallian motto "Live Jesus in our hearts...Forever!"  We gave one to Bishop McCormack who put it on and reminded the students that God loves them, they are good, and as long as we do live Jesus in our hearts we will be so much better.
