On to Philly

Tomorrow morning seven Trinity students, along with Mr. Sheehan '79 of our Math department and Mrs. Peg Bourque P'14, will hit the road to spend a week serving the poorest of the poor at Saint Francis Inn in Philadelphia.  This will be, I believe, Trinity's 7th year going to Saint Francis Inn and is one of our most popular Campus Ministry trips.  We have a nice relationship with the inn and many years ago at our Campus Ministry Banquet, we honored New Hampshire native Father Michael Duffy, OFM for his work at Saint Francis Inn.  Father Michael also preached the homily at the funeral Mass for Father Mychal Judge, OFM, the priest who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11 and who had his body carried out by rescue workers.  A picture of that moment is one of the most iconic images from that horrible day.  You can read the bios of all the workers at the inn here and be incredibly inspired by the selfless sacrifices these folks have made to serve the poor.  One of the full-time volunteers there is a recent graduate of Saint Anselm College.

The students and adults will spend the week working at the dining room or the thrift shop while sleeping in a dorm owned by the inn without air conditioning or creature comforts.  I will be heading down on Wednesday morning as Mr. Sheehan has to come back to help run Trinity's annual golf tournament which raises money for scholarships at Trinity (this guy just keeps on giving!).  I am excited to be heading down as I've never been to Saint Francis Inn but have heard so much about it.

On Wednesday night we will all head over to Lasalle University, also in Philadelphia, for dinner.  Lasalle is a Lasallian Christian Brothers school and the site of last year's Lasallian Youth Assembly.  At  last week's Lasallian Youth Assembly in Buffalo I mentioned to Bro. Ed Hofmann, FSC, who works at Lasalle, that we were going to be in Philadelphia and he invited our group over for dinner at the brother's residence.  It will be a nice treat for the kids and another introduction to the Lasallian world for those who haven't had a chance to visit one of their schools.

Please pray for our students and adult chaperones who will be giving so much of themselves next week.  The students going are:

Kasie Bourque '14
Allie Bowe '13
Claire Dalton '13
Erica Fowler '13
Kara Gadecki '13
Joshua Martin '13
Richard McCauley '13

I am not sure if there is wi-fi there but if there is I will try to post updates.
