Today we laid our beloved colleague Stan Gorski '58 to rest. His wake was yesterday and his funeral Mass was this morning at Saint Joseph Cathedral. Father Andrew Nelson celebrated the Mass and was assisted by Deacon Bob Potvin. Msgr. Alfred Daniszewski and Fathers Ray Ball and Richard Kelley concelebrated. Msgr. Dan (as he's known) is the pastor of Stan's parish, Saint Hedwig, and Father Ray used to be our chaplain and Father Kelley served on our board for many years. Two of our recent alums, Ryan Nichols '12 and Michelle Puthota '13, were the servers along with one of Stan's relatives.
The cathedral was almost filled and Father Andrew preached a brilliant homily, a perfect blend of stories and theology. Considering he was ordained just over two months ago, he was pretty nervous but you would have never known it. It was a grand slam. Mrs. Brown, Stan's former wife, gave some words of remembrance at the end. Stan was buried at Saint Hedwig Cemetery in Bedford. Following the burial, Trinity hosted a reception in our gym.
Now fittingly, we begin a new year. The students come in tomorrow for their orientation and the first day of classes is Friday. Leave it to Mr. Gorski, he wouldn't have wanted to interfere with school. Mrs. Brown joked about that in his talk, saying Mr. Gorski would have had nothing to do with the funeral, he would be back at school getting ready for the year.
