Each summer students from Lasallian high schools on the East Coast gather for a week of faith, service, and community at the Lasallian Youth Assembly (LYA). Trinity is a former Lasallian school of course but we are working on becoming an affiliate school once again. Since 2011 we have been privileged to attend LYA. This year LYA is being held at Manhattan College in the Bronx and five Trinity students will be joining me and Mrs. Photiades P'14 and '11:
Kasie Bourque '14
Jessie Charon '15
Bryan Dufour '14
Kerra Photiades '14
Michael Toomey '14
LYA begins this Sunday and runs through Friday morning, July 19. On Sunday we will celebrate Mass, get aquatinted with everyone through dinner, games, and a social, and go over the logistics for the week. Monday-Wednesday begin with breakfast and morning prayer and we will all head out to service sites to work on Superstorm Sandy clean-up. There is free time each afternoon followed by dinner, presentations, night prayer, and socials. Thursday is always an excursion day which I assume with be in New York City with night prayer and a sending forth in the evening. We then head out first thing on Friday morning.
This has quickly become one of my favorite Campus Ministry events. Our students have made many friends from LYA, learned a great deal about the Lasallian world, and been connected to the bigger picture. For me, I too have learned a lot about Lasalle and made a number of contacts and friends who I look forward to seeing again each summer. It is a very rewarding and satisfying experience.
I will blog as much as possible while we are there. Stay tuned!
