This Saturday night, we are hosting our 5th annual Cardboard City event to benefit New Horizons for New Hampshire, a shelter/meal center/food pantry here in Manchester. Over the past four years, our students have raised over $15,000 for New Horizons and I am hoping for about $4,000 this year.
Students can arrive on Saturday anytime after 6pm and begin setting up their cardboard homes for the night on our front lawn. We will move inside for Mass with our chaplain, Fr. Richard Dion, at 8pm and then watch the Will Smith film "Pursuit of Happyness" (sic). For the past few years, my good friend Dan Puopolo has donated pizzas for the students as they watch the film as a small way to thank them for what they are doing. We will head outside after the movie and the students will spend the night experiencing what it's like to be homeless. The forecast calls for cold night so it will certainly be "authentic." We will wrap up on Sunday morning around 7am.
Please pray for the good people of New Horizons and the people they serve. Please also pray that our students are generous with their fundraising and understand that by what they are doing, they are doing it for Him.
