Spring Athlete Mass

Fr. Richard blessing each head coach
Last winter we began a new tradition here at Trinity High School - marking the start of each sports season with a Mass for the athletes and coaches.  We had our spring sports Mass yesterday, Easter Tuesday, with our chaplain Fr. Richard Dion as our celebrant.  The Mass was held right after school in our gym and it seems that almost half of our student body is taking part in a sport this season.  The Mass was quite simple and was the Mass for Easter Tuesday.  Fr. Richard worked sportsmanship into his homily and encouraged the students to play well, represent themselves and the school well, and to always pray before they play their games.

Following Mass, our athletic director Mr. Polak called up each head coach and they were presented with a prayer book for athletes produced by the University of Notre Dame as well as a medal of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes.

Fr. Richard also personally blessed each head coach.  Mr. Polak then called up each assistant coach who also received a medal.  Mr. Polak then offered a few words and Fr. Richard gave a special blessing over all the athletes.

Best of luck to all of our athletes and we thank them for being Pioneers!
