O Salutaris Hostia...

Throughout the season of Lent, each of our four classes will spend a brief bit of time in our chapel in prayer.  Today our freshmen came in during their theology classes and we spent time in adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.  I explained a little bit about the theology of the Eucharist, saying we are what we eat, and ultimately by eating the body of Christ, we become (we hope) more like Christ.  I also explained the meaning of the tabernacle, the sanctuary lamp, and the monstrance.  I then exposed the Blessed Sacrament and we all spent a few moments in silent prayer.  We then listened to the hymn "O Salutaris Hostia" and prayed the Divine Praises.

Next week our seniors will  pray the seven last words of Jesus during their theology classes, the sophomores will pray the rosary on the Solemnity of the Annunciation on March 25, and on April 1, our juniors will pray the stations of the cross.  We are also having a Pray-a-Thon on March 13 in response to a call from Pope Francis for 24 hours of prayer on March 13/14.  Stay tuned.
