O Antiphons

From December 17-23, the Church's focus turns to Christmas.  The first part of Advent is focused on the second coming of Christ but beginning today we focus on marking the first time He came at Christmas.  There is an ancient tradition in the Church of praying special antiphons at Evening Prayer during this period called the O Antiphons.  Each prayer focuses on a different attribute of the Messiah and are rooted in scripture.  These antiphons will be our daily prayer from now until we begin our vacation on Friday.

Today's was:

O Wisdom, you came forth from the mouth of the Most High and, reaching from beginning to end, you ordered all things mightily and sweetly.  Come, and teach us the way of prudence.
