Junior Leadership Ceremony

Last year we began a new tradition called the Junior Leadership Ceremony.  It was initially going to be a junior ring ceremony but so few students ordered rings we turned it into a ceremony to mark the class' rise as the seniors of the school.  We held this year's ceremony last Thursday, May 2.  We began by praying Psalm 25 and listening to the gospel story of Jesus commissioning the apostles and His ascension into heaven (Mark 16:15-20).  We used this reading as our ceremony was a sort of commissioning as well of our students.  Mrs. Leblond of our math department read the gospel reading as she is the junior class advisor.

Following this, Mr. Mailloux '72 offered remarks on leadership and dreaming using Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech as a catylst.  He then commissoned the juniors:

Mr. Mailloux: Do you accept the challenge to be light to the Trinity High School community?

Juniors:         I do, with the help of God’s grace.

Mr. Mailloux: Will you carry out your responsibility as a Trinity High School student leader with  enthusiasm and a willingness to witness to the Gospel?

Juniors:         I will, with the help of God’s grace.

Mr. Mailloux: Are you committed to a ministry of mercy
to both your school and your community?

Juniors:         I am, with the help of God’s grace.

Mr. Mailloux: Are you committed to giving witness to your faith as part of the evangelizing mission of         Trinity High School?

Juniors:          I am, with the help of God’s grace.

We then called up each junior and presented them with a Tau cross, their ring (if they ordered one), and a note from a coach, teacher, etc. encouraging each student to make the most of their senior year and to show leadership for the younger students.  We had a light reception after where many people stayed and mingled.

The Tau cross is one the four signs of our faith that they receive each year.  Freshmen receive a Bible, sophomores a rosary, and seniors a candle symbolizing that they are to be the light of Christ in the world.

Congratulations to the Class of 2014, we look forward to great things from you next year.  As Pope Francis recently said on Twitter:

Dear young people, do not bury your talents, the gifts that God has given you! Do not be afraid to dream of great things!
