Every morning we have about a 15 mile ride to school from our bunkhouse. There is only one radio station you can pick and we listen to it on the way in. Each morning the host lists off the lunch menus at all the local schools and senior centers and I just love the names of the towns, they're so western - Cut Bank, Whitefish, Heart Butte, Kalispell, etc. The sports report is also of all the local high schools as there are no professional sports teams in Montana.
There is no cell service at our bunkhouse and maybe 1 car passes by every half hour or so, it is so quiet. I went for a walk yesterday afternoon and was standing right in the middle of the road just admiring the mountains and scenery, it is so breathtaking. There is not another house around for about a mile and the only other living creatures near us are cattle. I can't imagine what the isolation was like when the pioneers came here in the 1830's.
There is something so romantic yet haunting about the west, I love it.
