Today was the funeral Mass for Mr. Henry Dion, the father of our good friend Father Richard Dion. The Mass was held at Saint Anne Church at Good Shepherd Parish in Berlin, the second such funeral to be held there in a month (you may recall that the mother of Fathers Marc and Paul Montminy was buried from there on Easter Tuesday). This trek was much easier as there wasn't any snow! Plus, my son Kevin accompanied me as he had to stay home from school with a fever.
Father Richard was the celebrant of the Mass with many priest con-celebrants and Bishops Libasci and Christian "in choir." The homily was preached masterfully by the pastor, Father Marc Gagne. He focused on Mr. Dion's final words "I am coming" which he said in French right before he passed away. It was a wonderful, wonderful homily.
Following the Mass there was a Lazarus Meal in the parish hall. I get the impression that after each funeral, a group of dedicated men and women prepare meals for the family and friends as these were the same folks who prepared a meal after Mrs. Montminy's funeral.
May Mr. Dion's soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
