Habemus Papam!

Yours truly lighting the fire
Mr. Donnelly of our Science department holds the canister
We had a 12:00pm dismissal yesterday as our incoming freshmen were coming between 2pm and 7pm to sign up for their classes.  Thus, our student body wasn't here when the white smoke appeared and Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was elected as Pope Francis.
You can make out the white smoke if you look to the right of the sign

So this morning we lit the ceremonial white smoke and many students and teachers came outside for the brief ceremony.  I can't say I know much about Pope Francis other than what has been reported but he sounds like is a humble, simple servant.  I loved the part yesterday when he bowed down and asked the people to ask God to bless him.  As a graduate of a Jesuit high school I am proud that a Jesuit was elected pope and as a fan of the Franciscans, I appreciate the papal name he picked.

Pope Francis will be formally inaugurated on March 19, the Solemnity of Saint Joseph.  We already had a Mass planned for that day so it will now be extra special.

Stay tuned for sure!
