Why we must act

Last night on WMUR, there was a story on the New Hampshire Food Bank and how they are struggling mightily to supply food.  They only have enough food to last 5 days and are in desperate need of donations.

This is stark reminder of why we must continue to do all we can to help the most vulnerable among us. Next Monday we will be collecting our annual Thanksgiving Baskets to benefit the food pantries of Blessed Sacrament Parish and Parish of the Transfiguration here in Manchester.  Our goal is to collect about 500 baskets and even that won't be enough.  Both food pantries have told me that they are in dire straits and have waiting lists for the baskets.

I hope everyone will consider being a part of our drive this Monday.  Laundry baskets are available for folks to take and use to fill with the following items:

  • 2 cans of turkey gravy
  • 5 pound bag of potatoes
  • 2 bags of fresh carrots
  • 1 package of dinner rolls
  • 1 box of stuffing mix
  • 2 cans of cranberry sauce
  • 2 cans of green beans
  • 1 can of coffee
  • 2 cans of fruit cocktail
  • Assorted desserts
  • Anything else you may want to add
