New Horizons Breakfast

Every year during Thanksgiving Week, New Horizons has a major fundraiser breakfast at the Radisson Hotel in downtown Manchester.  This year was the 19th annual breakfast and was attended by all the movers and shakers in Greater Manchester.  New Horizons asked us if we could send some students to help with the raffles and other activities which we of course were happy to do.  We later found out that Trinity would be one of the recipients of an award at the breakfast in recognition of Cardboard City.  We asked Mrs. Martineau from Saint Joseph Regional Junior High School to join us as well along with two students from Saint Joe's since they played a big role in Cardboard City as well.  Mr. Mailloux '72, the principal of both schools, was also there.

As you can see, there were hundreds and hundreds of people in attendance including Bishop Libasci,  many members of the clergy, Gov. Lynch, Mayor Gatsas, State Sen. D'Allesandro '56, and many others that I am sure I missed.  Bishop Libasci gave the invocation and following breakfast there were a few speakers, including Msgr. John Quinn, the pastor of Saint Elizabeth Seton Parish in Bedford.  He gave a touching tribute to Sr. Angie Whidden, RSM the founder of New Horizons and a former Trinity teacher (Sister Angie died last month).

I was moved by the number of people in attendance.  Dr. Thomas Brennan, the Superintendent of Schools in Manchester, said in his remarks that seeing so many people at the breakfast helped him realize that he is part of a large group of people who are part of the amazing work at New Horizons.  None of us, he said, are alone.

Towards the end of the program, Charlie Sherman (New Horizons' Executive Director) presented a number of awards to folks and organizations who do so much for New Horizons.  We were very humbled to be one of the recipients and the schools were represented by:

(l-r) Gov. Lynch, Mayor Gatsas, Charlie Sherman, Roy Tilsley

Kasie Bourque '14
Byrne Cronin '14
Morgan Doherty '16
Hannah Drouin '13
Griffin Frasier '14
Alex Higgins '14
Nora Landry '13 (Saint Joe's)
Michael Montembeault '13 (Saint Joe's)

We cherish our relationship with New Horizons and many of our students volunteer there on a regular basis and love it.  New Horizons is indeed doing the Lord's work and we are so honored to help in a tiny way.
