Today the Church celebrates All Souls Day, a day dedicated to remembering and praying for our beloved dead. In fact, all of November is traditionally dedicated to remembering the dead. The reason November was chosen is:
The theme of death for November fits the natural atmosphere of the month in the northern hemisphere. The havest is completed, a drying becomes evident throughout nature, cold weather and a hint of winter become more prevelant, and the dark of night becomes more pervasive (from "Catholic Customs and Traditions")
We were all given a card on which we could write the names of our beloved dead and they will be placed in our chapel throughout the month. We will choose one card a day and pray in a special way for the deceased during our morning prayer.
May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
