The Fifth Abbot

If my counting is correct, 14 of our faculty (including yours truly) attended Saint Anselm College.  Our school has always had a special relationship with Saint Anselm and so we are all very excited about the election of a new abbot at Saint Anselm Abbey!  Abbot Matthew Leavy, OSB is retiring as abbot and Chancellor of the College as of 7am tomorrow and a new abbot will be elected later that morning.  Abbot Matthew, who was elected in 1986 at the age of 35, is only the fourth abbot in the abbey's history (it became an abbey in 1927) so this is a very rare event.  The monks will meet today to nominate two candidates and deliberate between the two.  Then tomorrow at 9am they will gather again to vote.
