Stepping up

Last night we had our first annual Junior Leadership Ceremony.  We place a strong emphasis on developing our students as leaders, especially the seniors, for as go the senior class, so goes the school.  We used this occasion to inspire, empower, and commission our rising seniors to use their final year at Trinity High School one to remember.

Derik Paquette '13, the class president, gave some wonderful words of welcome which was followed by us praying Psalm 8 and Mr. Twomey '05 of our Theology department reading the gospel passage from the Mass for Ascension Thursday.  We choose this reading as one of the main points of the Ascension is that Christ has now left us in charge of His Church.  I told the juniors that they are now in charge, in a sense, of this school.

Mr. Mailloux '72 gave a nice reflection on leadership and then commissioned the juniors:

Mr. Mailloux: Do you accept the challenge to be light to the Trinity High School community?
Juniors: I do, with the help of God’s grace.
Mr. Mailloux: Will you carry out your responsibility as a Trinity High School student leader with enthusiasm and a willingness to witness to the Gospel?
Juniors: I will, with the help of God’s grace.
Mr. Mailloux: Are you committed to a ministry of service to both your school and your community?
Juniors: I am, with the help of God’s grace.
Mr. Mailloux: Are you committed to giving witness to your faith as part of the evangelizing mission of Trinity High School?
Juniors: I am, with the help of God’s grace.

Following this, he, along with Ms. Twomey and Derik, presented each junior with a crucifix, a personalized note from a coach, teacher, or adviser, and a class ring to those who ordered one.  After this Mr. Mailloux went through the gym and sprinkled holy water on the juniors.

Hopefully we have begun a nice new tradition here at Trinity High School!  Thanks to everyone who took part.
