Honoring the one and only

Last night was one of those nights that made me so proud to work at Trinity High School.  In a packed school gym we honored Mr. Stanley Gorski '58 for his 50th anniversary as a teacher at Bishop Bradley and Trinity High Schools.

The legend goes that Mr. Gorski was so overweight as a child that he wasn't able to fit into the desks so he was double promoted.  He was a freshman at 12 and a college graduate at 19.  He was walking home one day in July 1962 when a Lasallian Christian brother at Bishop Bradley called out to him and in very colorful language told him to get inside and apply for the open English teacher position.  Here we are 50 years later.

The night was a mixture of speeches, presentations, proclamations, videos, and lots and lots of laughs and memories.  Mr. Maurier '72 of our Science Department said it was the most alums he has seen at one event in all his time there (and they were from across the generational spectrum).  The evening ended with a 11 minute video of Mr. Gorski just talking about the past 50 years.  The most poignant part for me was when he discussed his faith and deep prayer life.  It was very moving as it's a side you don't often see of him, he's very humble about it.  Another impressive part was his 2 minute recitation from "The Canterbury Tales" in Old English!

Mr. Gorski will undoubtedly be the only teacher at Trinity High School who will reach this milestone.  The second most senior member of the faculty is Math teacher Ms. Kudrick who celebrates her 40th next year followed by Mr. Maurier and our principal Mr. Mailloux '72, both at 37 years.  They've all joked that they're not sure they'll make it to 50.

Ad multos annos, Mr. Gorski.  It is an honor and a privilege to serve alongside you.
