Hail the king

Today was our annual Holy Thursday Prayer Service.  As is our custom, we began with a Liturgy of the Word using the first reading and the gospel from tonight's Mass of the Lord's Supper.  The first reading recounts the story of Passover from the Book of Exodus which was read by Dr. Heifetz of our Science Department.  Following the Psalm refrain, Emily Murphy '14 read the gospel passage of the Washing of the Feet from John.  As we normally do, Emily stopped reading towards the end and our principal Mr. Mailloux '72 washed the feet of 12 students, teachers, and staff members at center court.  After he concluded, Emily finished the gospel:

So when he had washed their feet
and put his garments back on and reclined at table again, he said to them, "Do you realize what I have done for you? You call me 'teacher' and 'master,' and rightly so, for indeed I am. If I, therefore, the master and teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet. I have given you a model to follow, so that as I have done for you, you should also do."

Following the gospel, we transitioned to the Stations of the Cross.  Instead of using the traditional stations you find in Churches, we used the ones from scripture, the same ones Blessed John Paul II used on Good Friday 1991.  We kept the gym dark except for a red spotlight to highlight the 14 stations.  At the very end as the choir sang "In the Shadow of the Cross" we placed a white spotlight on the empty cross.  It was pretty moving.

Mr. Carnevale's Mod E Theology class did an amazing job performing the stations and Michael Leonard '12 was marvelous as Jesus.

Stay tuned to Facebook and our website for videos and pictures from the day.
