Being extraordinary

Today we continued our daily Lenten focus on prayer by having Mass.  Each week during Lent, Father Richard Dion is graciously joining us to celebrate Mass.  On the other four days of the week, I meet with a different class during their Theology mod in the Saint Basil Chapel to explain and pray one of the many great prayer traditions of the Church.  This week we've looked at the rosary with the seniors, adoration with the sophomores, lectio divina with the freshmen, and tomorrow the Stations of the Cross with the juniors.

Father Richard gave a brilliant homily in which he discussed how one does not have to be a super hero in order to be a saint - one just has to be good.  He used the example of Blessed Mother Teresa and told the story of how she could have cared less about receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.  But, she saw an opportunity there and asked the committee to simply serve rice at the Peace Prize dinner and to donate the money they would have spent to her so she could spend it to help the poor in Calcutta.  Mother Teresa could not fly, she could not perform miracles, she just knew how to be good.

So can we.  We can turn the ordinary things in our lives into extraordinary, life changing opportunities.

Think about it.
