Historic weekend

Over the past ten years or so, Trinity High School has opened its doors to many students from Sudan.  I don't know the exact number of students but many have graced our hallways, seeking a new life from their war torn homeland.

The students and their families are from Southern Sudan, which is predominately Christian.  The south has been engaged in strife with the north for decades.  Now, Southern Sudan will become its own country. In an historic vote last fall, the people of the south voted to secede from the country to form their own.  Many of our student's parents traveled to Boston to cast their vote for secession.  That new country, South Sudan, will go into existence tomorrow.

You can read more about this here.

Congratulations to all of our friends from South Sudan!

  1. As I sit and read your post I am wearing an "Invisible Children" t-shirt. Our school raises money and awareness for this cause each year. Last year we had the organization and one of the "children" (now a full grown man entering the priesthood!) come to visit our school. How wonderful that you host them at your school. Our larger community hosts many "lost boys." There is a great documentary called "God Grew Tired of Us" that my students enjoy each year. It helps us (American's) view our country and way of life with fresh eyes. Always a good idea.
